And the Sinister Truth behind the Millions made from Online Courses.

Margaret Thaler Singer (Cults in Our Midst)

Singer’s Six Conditions (Thought-Reform, “Brainwashing”)

  1. Keep the person unaware that there’s an agenda to control or change the person
  2. Control time and physical environment, (contacts, information)
  3. Create a sense of powerlessness, fear, and dependency
  4. Suppress old behavior and attitudes
  5. Instill new behavior and attitudes
  6. Put forth a closed system of logic

When people hear the word “cult”, they imagine looney followers of extreme ideologies like:

  • The Order of the Solar Temple
  • Nxivm (pronounced, Nex- E – Um)
  • Church of Euthanasia (A population reduction thang)
  • Church of Scientology
  • The Family International

And many more…

Cults

And because most people who hear the term will almost always think, yeah…

Those weirdo’s over there…

They’ll dismiss any notion that they themselves are influenced much more insidiously. (on a daily basis).

What I’m about to unveil, is only one small segment of society.

The Course Junkie

Now, before we continue, I’m going to make a claim:

>Persuasion, when mastered is an art form and can be used for good or bad. The people who wield this power have a responsibility to those they persuade<.

Unfortunately, the majority of marketers don’t take their responsibility seriously, and flout their power – Sucking the lifeblood out of their victims, ’till they’re dust in the wind – Every last remnant of energy depleted.

But, let’s get back on topic…

The Course Junkie, and their Guru…

Think back to the first time you clicked on a Facebook ad’ and it took you to a Video clip of some guy spouting off how successful he is  (Lambo’ or something similar parked in the garage)

These “lead – ins” might seem innocent at first, even entertaining…

…but for most they’ll become the collective nails steps to your coffin cult.

In other words, these guru’s aren’t trying to teach you anything, the main goal is to keep you hooked on their products.

Control

To reprogram your mind, to “want” the next thing, then the next, etc.

Do you want to know “How They Do It”?

Firstly, they’ll pick a specific “niche”. (This will become the target audience)…

Somewhere to focus on their insecurities or dreams.

Heightening their pain and pleasure…

A bit like this:

“Have you ever dreamed of working from anywhere in the world. Financially independent, never worrying about losing the shitty job you once hated?”

Or similar…

All the available techniques will be used during the VSL (Video Sales Letter). In which a skilled copywriter will be paid handsomely to compile.

Most VSLs are structured similarly, with a punchy lead, background story, USP (unique selling Proposition or BIG idea), Product build-up & Reveal, Close and then the FAQs.

The ingredients are subject to the target market…

Selling The Dream

The hour to three-hour-long videos will get you to “imagine” all the things you’re missing out on.

And how others have completed the course and are now raking in more money than they can shake a stick at…

You’ll be told to get rid of all distractions, so you’re the only one who has their attention. The story of abundant wealth for those who know where to look for it. There’s no shortage, only a shortage mindset, blah, blah, blah…

Extreme Wealth

(This seed is planted, so when it comes to buying the course, you’ll find a way to get the money). After all, there’s no “real” shortage, huh?

It’s always explained that you have to put in the work…

And there are NO shortcuts, only losers complain when they give up and don’t do the work required.

Note: It does take hard work and persistence to succeed in business (that’s never changed). But a course won’t do it for you. The principles are used to motivate you to spend your money on info’ you can pick up for ten bucks on Udemy.

Sipping On a Nice Tequila Sunrise

Relaxing on the Beach

Keep in mind…

Every word and visual you experience in these Videos has been meticulously crafted to convince you to hand over your money (and your mind)

They’ll keep saying it’s easy… easy –  and eeeeasy…

As long as you work hard at it?Tequila

Then you’ll be told it isn’t a “Get Rich Quick Scheme”

And if you’re lazy and not willing to work hard, don’t bother

In contrast, you’ll be lying on a beach in no time sipping cocktails…

(Hmmm, something stinks, and it ain’t the sea air).

Reality Hits

Eventually, after buying shit-loads of upsells and attending “mastermind” conferences (feeling like a celebrity)

You’ll be sitting in your bedsit, up to your eyeballs in debt, wondering WTF just happened…

Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of “value” up for grabs with great marketers out there.

And these folk have steel-like integrity.

But there are just as many, or more, who don’t give a flying f%*K about you.

As a matter of fact, they use that power, taking no responsibility for their actions in the slightest…

“With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility”

(Spiderman)

If you’ve been a course junkie in the past and felt ashamed that you were abused like this…

Know you’re not alone…

Many (just like you) are hiding in the shadows, fearful of telling their close associates how they’ve been left out to dry.

This short article is written to dangle a warning bell for all those who’ve now been shown the light…

All the best

Dedo
