How To Boost Your Open Rates To Get Greater Views

As you’ve already learned, one of your main focus points should be getting people to open your emails. Because if they aren’t, they’re not reading, clicking on your links, or buying your products!

So, do you want to change all that?

If so, follow these steps…

Step 1: Capture Attention in the Inbox

Imagine your email sitting in their inbox… are they even noticing it? Here’s how to capture their attention…

Use a Familiar “FROM” Field

People aren’t going to open your emails if they don’t recognize who you are. That’s why you’ll want to choose the “From” field carefully and don’t change it in the future. Your “From” field should be whatever is most recognizable to your subscribers, such as your business name, personal name (both first and last), or a combination (e.g., John Doe, Business X).

Note: You’ll want them to eventually associate your name with someone who always gives plenty of value… someone who has integrity, ingenuity, and above all… solves their immediate problems.

Craft Attention-Getting Subject Lines and Previews

As mentioned in Lesson 4, your subject lines and previews are a big key to capturing attention and getting people to open your emails. So, be sure to review the information again for tips on how to write compelling, benefit-driven subject lines that get clicks.

Step 2: Produce Quality Content

One of the best ways to achieve high open rates is to create a “must-read” newsletter. If you’re consistently sharing good information, your readers will naturally open your material whenever they see one in their inbox.

Secondly, you’ll want to specialize in some particular topic in your niche. You want to become this topic’s “GO-TO” person. Put it this way…

When readers know they’ll get specialized information from an expert, they’ll become far more likely to open your emails.

Next, be sure to include fresh, exciting information your audience can’t find anywhere else. But be sure to do this in the first email you send and every email going forward. And your audience will quickly learn your niche’s TOP tips, ideas, and strategies… and will pounce on your emails as soon as they arrive.

Note… this doesn’t mean every word in your email needs to share something your reader hasn’t heard before. It means, there needs to be something about your email that’s FRESH. So, check out these tips for doing just that…

  • Share a fresh tip.
  • Share a twist on an old method.
  • Provide a new way of using a familiar object.
  • Tell a unique (relevant) story.
  • Provide a fresh approach/viewpoint.
  • Share a unique case study.
  • Construct your email in a fresh way, by sharing a step-by-step process inside a

And finally… people can’t open your emails if they don’t see them. That’s why you’ll want to work hard to avoid folders. This starts with using a reputable email service provider (like ConvertKit). You’ll also want to use a spam checker to ensure your email doesn’t have a red-flag, leading to getting dumped by the spam filter.

Step 3: Create a Series

People like to finish what they start, so sharing a series is a good way to boost your opens. You can share one long series over time or create and share multiple series. The idea is to share one tip, one step, method, interview, tool, and so on… over time. And if people like what they see, they’ll keep opening your emails.

Let’s suppose you’re sharing weight loss information. You might do a 12-week case study where you share tips and advice… along with your real-time case study… in a series of at least 12 weekly emails (or 24 if you do two per week). People will engage and want to follow along, so they’ll keep opening your emails.

And once the series ends, they’ll keep opening your emails since you’ve impressed them and developed a great relationship.

Step 4: Think long-term to BOOST Opens

Crafting a good subject line helps increase your open rates for individual emails. However, you need to know these aren’t based on a single factor. So, if you want to increase open rates, take consistent steps over time.

These steps include the following…

Get Personal

People like to do business with those they know, like, and trust – and are far more likely to open emails from familiar people. That’s why you want to work hard to build good relationships with your audience.

One way to do this is to share personal information occasionally. For example… share mistakes you’ve made in your niche. Share triumphs and struggles. Share photos or videos to help build relationships and let people put a face to your name.

Don’t Repurpose Your List

When people first sign up for your list, you need to set expectations about exactly what sort of content they’ll receive and how often they’ll receive it. You can set these expectations on your landing page and reinforce them in the first few emails you send. Just be sure you’re meeting your reader’s expectations. In other words… don’t repurpose your list and start sending out content people don’t want because your open rates will plummet (and your unsubscribes will soar).

Segment Your List

You’ll get much higher open rates if you send highly targeted content to a segmented audience. For example…

If you’re sending out a promo for a certain product, then be sure to exclude everyone who’s already purchased that specific product. If you don’t do this… you’ll end up with a cold list, as people will stop opening your emails because they aren’t relevant anymore.

Send Emails Out at the Right Time

You’ll need to test and track your emails to see when is the best time to send them… and then start sending out all the emails at those times. For example – if you find people both open your emails and click them on Tuesday and Friday mornings, then that’s when you should send the bulk of your emails.

Conclusion

Take a moment to review the information you just learned and determine how you will apply it, where applicable. For example…

What expectations will you set for your readers, and how will you meet those expectations? What name will you use in your “FROM” field? What sort of personal information will you share to help build strong relationships with your readers?
